Start a startup and make real impact.
A $2.2BN company wants to be your first client.

  • Problem:

    Consumer Apathy

How do we get our members to engage in preventative care? What apps, tools or technologies can you build that can be adopted, scaled and actively utilized by our members?

  • Problem:

    Price Transparency

Different providers often charge different rates for the same procedure. Members are unaware since they only pay a flat co-pay per visit and there's no incentive to 'shop around'.

  • Problem:

    Medical Coding

ICD-10 standards have changed. Let's discover new opportunities within this transition.

a room full of hackers

Not your Grandma's hackathon.

Wellmark wants your startup to be successful. Leverage a hackathon to prove how awesome you are.
If you kill it in one week they will sign a letter of intent to buy your future product, assign an executive to iterate with you, and we'll invite you to the preincubaton program.

Preincubation, it's a good thing.

Teams leaving the hackathon with a LOI are invited to weekly private events, dinners, and mixers with top industry and VC executives.
After 90 days, you will demo your concept to BCBS executives and (hopefully) win a contract. We might ask for equity, but only if you land a major client because of us.

Blue Cross Blue Shield, at scale

Scale? We can do that.

Think a $50,000 client sounds good? How about 38 of them? That's how many companies are under the Blue Cross umbrella. 4 Blues will be attending and assessing whether your startup can be scaled to their organizations as well.

Free lunches, not free lunch

Typical programs make you pay up front. We're different.
Land your first major client because of us, we'll ask for 3-5% equity. No obligations, but our goal is to land you many clients - so keep us aligned and fighting for you.
Unlike typical programs, you only pay after you see value.

Problems

Here's a taste of problems to be pitched

Problem #1

Consumer Apathy

How do we get our members to engage in preventative care? What apps, tools or technologies can you build that can be adopted, scaled and actively utilized by our members? Not only will your tool provide us valuable member engagement data, it could reduce member visits to providers, reducing overall health spend.

(We'd pay)*: $75,000

Problem #2

Price Transparency

Different providers often charge different rates for the same procedure. Members are unaware since they only pay a flat co-pay per visit. There is no incentive to 'shop around', contributing to excess health spend. What technologies can you build to: 1) increase transparency of costs to our members, 2) actively engage them to 'shop around'?

(We'd pay)*: $100,000

Problem #3

Medical Coding

Every procedure is classified into a medical code, called an ICD. There are over 14,000 codes in our system, and they're currently being revised to the 10th revision, ICD-10. What analytic tools and technologies can you build to help us identify and forecast unique opportunities within the changing data set?

(We'd pay)*: $50,000
